The LAM museum is located on the beautiful estate of Keukenhof Castle, opposite the world-famous Keukenhof spring garden. While you’ll need to pay for an admission ticket to the flower park, the estate can be visited for free. And an added bonus… it’s a gateway to Keukenhof forest!
Keukenhof Castle, next door to the LAM museum, has a chequered past. This is where Jacoba of Bavaria, Countess of Holland and Hainault, spent the final four years of her life in exile. The castle recently opened to the public and regularly raises its gates for Open Monumentendag (heritage day), Dag van het Kasteel (castle day) and prebooked tours. You can book your visit to the LAM museum’s special neighbour here.
The LAM museum is in the middle of the bulb region — tulip land! The hundreds of bulbs on our patch start flowering in early spring. If you visit us then, you’ll be able to admire Keukenhof’s world-famous bulb fields from the museum.
The Dutch bulb fields should be on everyone’s bucket list. Reds, pinks, lilacs, yellows, oranges and blues: the fields erupt into life in spring and become a living, breathing painting. Seeing — and smelling ¬— is believing. Imagine the fragrance of a million flowers. Don’t imagine! Take a stroll or bicycle ride through the area. There are also lots of flower-themed attractions near the LAM museum:
After all that food art for the eyes at the LAM museum, it’s time to treat your tummy. Fancy a cup of coffee, a snack or a full meal? Look no further than restaurant De Hofboerderij, a few minutes’ walk from the museum.
Other options include Het Tussenstation or Tespelduyn Estate, both a short cycle ride or drive away.
Restaurant de Hofboerderij is next door to a charming petting zoo and the start of the ‘gnome path’. Walk this 750-metre route with your little ones and try to spot the gnomes!
Spring and summertime in this tulip-blessed part of the world look great from the seat of a bicycle. The fragrance of millions of tulips rides on the breeze while you pedal through the dazzling fields of red, pink and yellow blooms. The ideal way to see more sights. And you can stop wherever you like. Spotted a place for a drink? Brakes on, park your bike and sit down for a sip. If you’re here in summer, do as the Dutch do and grab a box of kibbeling: crunchy, battered morsels of fish that are best enjoyed at the seafront.
Here are our three favourite bicycle rental companies:
Do you like to be beside the seaside? After visiting the LAM museum, explore nearby coastal resorts like enchanting Noordwijk aan Zee. If you’re not a fan of sand between your toes but still require some beach vibes, head over to the nearby Restaurant Como & Co in Noordwijkerhout.
