Together with Eveline van Rijswijk, finalist of De Slimste Mens and columnist at NPO Radio 1, visitors welcomed Folkert de Jong's new artwork in January. Artist Folkert de Jong was present to answer visitors' questions and receive the first reactions to his new work of art.

Like a welcome visit!

In the spring, during the flower bulb season, a special Keukenhof bus was transformed into a LAM experience on wheels. Tourists traveling between Amsterdam and Lisse could get an early taste of the museum's architecture and art.

In April, visitors and artist Regula Maria Müller created a large flower mosaic for the LAM museum. The temporary artwork was an ode to the edible tulip. The mosaic featured Delft blue tiles with tulips, tulip soup, tulip cookies, and pickled tulip bulbs. With real tulip cookies to taste and a tulip house to walk into, visitors were given a complete experience.

On Sunday, April 30th, Fanfare Jong K&G from Leiden marched straight through the LAM museum. With their drums, flutes, piccolos, and trumpets, the boys of Jong K&G paraded through the public footpath of the museum, performing in and around the museum. The show & marching band wanted to thank the LAM museum with this festive show for a previous donation. During the pandemic, the foundation behind the museum gifted the band three instruments.

During the May holiday, the LAM briefly became the cotton candy studio of artist Martijntje Cornelia. Visitors watched over her shoulder and helped the artist spin the sugar. The project was a dream for both visitors and the artist: 'The sculpture I created inside and in front of the LAM is my most personal and challenging work I have ever made.'

Is it a peddler, someone addicted to shopping, or an artwork? Artist Guda Koster, internationally recognized for her humorous and meticulously crafted fabric sculptures, created this image specifically for the museum. In collaboration with artist Frans van Tartwijk, the sculpture came to life on Monday, May 29th, the second day of Pentecost.

On June 28, 2023, it was exactly 50 years ago that artist Antoni Miralda (1942) served guests at the American Henry Art Gallery blue sausages, black breads, turquoise pâté, and other unexpectedly colored dishes. Marc van der Marck and Josee Vincken were present and donated the recording of the evening, a video documentary, to the LAM museum: 'There is only one destination where this video truly belongs,' explained the donors.

An ice cream cart offering six different flavours in six shades of grey, ranging from light grey to almost black. No flavour labelling and served in a charcoal-grey ice cream cone. But does a colourless ice cream still give you that familiar sense of summer? And without the recognisable colour, how and what do you actually taste? During the summer, Brazilian artist João Loureiro and LAM museum treated visitors to a strange taste sensation: grey ice cream. The LAM museum was honoured to have artwork Escala de Cinzas (Grayscale) on loan from Brazil’s leading art museum: Pinacoteca de São Paulo.

On Friday, 29 September 2023, the LAM museum, located on the Keukenhof Estate in Lisse, received the Sacha Tanja Medal. The jury praised the art museum’s excellent eye for high-quality, thought-provoking art and the fresh and unconventional way it makes art accessible to a wide audience: “The museum team always does things just that bit different from other museums.” Emily Ansenk, jury member and director of Holland Festival, presented the prize to the museum’s director, Sietske van Zanten. The medal portrays an image of Sacha Tanja, the former chief curator of the ING Collection who passed away in 2004.

On Wednesday, 27 September, Shefali Razdan Duggal, United States Ambassador to the Netherlands, and Kate Nanavatty, United States Consul General in Amsterdam, visited the LAM museum on the Keukenhof Estate in Lisse. With diversity and inclusiveness being high on the ambassador’s agenda, she praised the art museum’s accessibility: “What really impresses me about the LAM museum is its commitment to be open to everyone, no matter how deep a person’s pockets are or how much they know about art."

On Sunday, 19 November, 10 children took over the LAM museum. Junior Viewing Coaches aged from 8 to 12 received training behind the scenes and then guided museum visitors. “We want children to be able to experience first-hand that their opinions and perspectives matter”, says Sietske van Zanten, director of the LAM.

During the Christmas holiday of 2023, LAM became the museum of happiness for a while. Artist Benjamin Li (1985) presented his largest ceramic fortune cookie at the LAM museum. Visitors were invited to add their wishes for happiness and become part of the artwork. Through a search game, visitors could discover happiness-enhancing details in the artworks. Those who wanted to pass on their happiness could make a real fortune cookie with a personal message.

On December 30, 2023, the LAM museum featured prominently on the television program 'Sterren op het doek.' Host Özcan Akyol surprised culinary expert, presenter, and entrepreneur Miljuschka Witzenhausen with three portraits.

In 2023, the international collection of the LAM museum was enriched with 26 acquisitions, including artworks by Folkert de Jong, Andy Dixon, Benedikt Fischer, Super Future Kid, Magali Reus, Ana Navas, Martijntje Cornelia, Ty Locke, Guda Koster, Levi van Veluw, and Kadir van Lohuizen.

In 2023, 1649 students from grades 5 to 8 discovered the LAM. During exclusive school programs, students were trained to become LAM apprentices and experts. The Viewing Coaches also visited schools that year. Through the programKijkcoach in de klas, the museum encouraged students to observe everyday things with a special perspective, similar to what they experience in the museum. 753 students participated in the Kijkcoach in de klas program.

In addition to 7 new Viewing Coaches, the LAM office team was strengthened in 2023 with a new curator. This curator took over the responsibilities from the Public & Collection staff member who departed in 2022.
