Do Ho Suh’s stoves, doorknobs, stairs, front doors, halls, toilets and bathtubs are exact copies of his old belongings and living spaces. Except the copies are made of transparent, brightly colored fabrics. For him, they are tangible memories of the places where he felt at home.
The stove with oven by Do Ho Suh in the LAM museum, gives beautiful warm light. It feels like you can warm yourself to this work of art.
Do Ho Suh’s stove is a replica from his American apartment. Do Ho Suh is a globetrotter. He lived in Korea, Berlin, London and New York.
Stove from Do Ho Suh looks as light as a feather. Nothing could be further from the truth: including the housing, this work of art weighs almost 200 kilos.
The LAM museum’s art collection is inspired by food, drink and shopping. Each artwork shines a different light on these ordinary concepts and activities. A visit to the museum will transform your perspective on the things you encounter every day.
