Trees are cut down to make the toothpicks. People use them once and throw them away. Chris Soal wants to do something about this waste. That is why he often uses objects in his art that we normally throw away. He also makes works of art from crown caps.

Fortunately, Chris Soal doesn’t have to stick each toothpick into the work separately. He has developed his own technique. First he spreads polyurethane glue on the surface. He sticks a bunch of toothpicks in there. The glue is not immediately hard, so Chris Soal can still model the toothpicks. In this way he builds up the entire work of art, bunch by bunch.
